Easy Chhuara Halwa Recipe | How to Make Dried Dates Halwa at Home

Easy Chhuara Halwa Recipe (Dried Dates Halwa) – Healthy & Delicious

Looking for a healthy and delicious dessert without using too much sugar? Chhuara halwa is a perfect choice. Made from dried dates, this traditional Indian sweet is rich, naturally sweet, and perfect for winter days or festive occasions.

What is Chhuara?

Chhuara means dried dates. These are harder and less juicy than fresh dates but have a deep, caramel-like flavor. When cooked, they become soft and turn into a rich halwa.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried dates (chhuara), deseeded
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3–4 tablespoons ghee
  • 3–4 tablespoons sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 10–12 chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)
  • A few saffron strands (optional)

Step-by-Step Recipe

  1. Soak the dried dates in warm milk for 3–4 hours or overnight. This helps soften them.
  2. Grind the soaked dates along with the milk into a smooth paste.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan on medium flame.
  4. Add the chhuara paste and cook while stirring continuously.
  5. Add sugar if needed and mix well.
  6. Keep cooking until the mixture thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
  7. Add cardamom powder, saffron, and chopped nuts.
  8. Mix well and cook for another 2–3 minutes.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy.

Tips for Best Taste

  • Use good quality dried dates for better flavor
  • Stir continuously to avoid burning
  • Skip sugar if the dates are naturally sweet
  • Add a little milk if the halwa becomes too thick

Why You Should Try This

Chhuara halwa is not only tasty but also nutritious. It is rich in natural sugars, fiber, and energy, making it perfect for winters and special occasions.
